OpenVPN Howto connect to the VPNUK service
1. Install OpenVPN
Install the OpenVPN package is from the command line: sudo apt-get install network-manager network-manager-openvpn network-manager-pptp

2. Download Config Files
Download and extract the certificate and key files to a safe location, we recommend you store them in the 'Documents' folder. The files are available for download from here: OpenVPN config files We have configured OpenVPN on our servers to accept connections through the TCP protocol using port 443 or 80 and the UDP protocol using ports 1194, 55194 or 65194.

3. Configure VPN
Click onto the 'Network Manager' icon to open the network connections overiew, then click onto 'Configure VPN' from the 'VPN Connections' sub menu.

4. Add New Connection
Click onto the 'New' button to begin the OpenVPN installation.

5. Choose Connection Type
Click onto 'OpenVPN' from the available connection types dropdown and then click onto the 'Create' button.

6. Connection Name
Enter a friendly name for the new OpenVPN connection.

7. Gateway IP
Enter the IP address of the server you are connecting to into the 'Gasteway' field.

8. Authentication
Select 'Password' from the authentication drop down menu.

9. Login Details
Enter your VPNUK login details into the 'Username' and 'Password' fields.

10. Certificate File
Click onto the 'CA Certificate' area to open the file location window.

11. Choose the .CRT file
Navigate to the 'Config' folder downloaded earlier and click onto the 'vpnuk-ca.crt' certificate file.

12. Advanced Options
Click onto the 'Advanced' button.

13. General Options
Click the option to 'Use LZO data compression.
Note: This connection will be setup using the OpenVPN default UDP protocol. If you would like to setup your OpenVPN connection over TCP instead you need to place a check in the 'Use custom gateway port' and enter the port, you can use port 443 or 80 on all VPNUK servers, then place a check in the 'Use a TCP connection' checkbox.

14. Authentication
Click onto the 'TLS Authentication' tab.

15. Use Authentication
Please a tick into the 'Use additional TLS authentication' checkbox.

16. Key File
Click onto the 'Key File' field to open the file location window.

17. Locate The Key File
Natigate to, then open the 'ta.key' file located inside the config file downloaded earlier.

18. Key Direction
Choose '1' from the key direction dropdown.

19. Confirm Changes
Click on 'OK' to confirm the changes and close the Authentication window.

20. Apply Configuration
Click onto 'Apply' to save your OpenVPN configuration settings.

21. Close Network Connections
Thats It!! Click onto 'Close' to exit the Network Connections overiew. Your OpenVPN connection has now been setup.

1. Network Manager
Go to the Network Manager and Click onto the VPN connection friendly name you have just created from the 'VPN Connections' sub menu.

2. Connection Icon
Once connected to the VPN a small padlock will appear on the Network Manager icon.
